Udumban – hurdle on release!

The release of ‘Udumban’ has found a hurdle with respect to its release date. A social activist from Chennai has claimed that ‘Udumban’ movie has tortured the endangered Monitor Lizard species (Udumbu in Tamil) and has applied for a stay over the movie’s release.

The summon to the City Civil court also demands the director and producer of the movie to file a responsible reply for it on or before 16th of February, 2012. Summoner P Selvaraj, who resides in Choolaimedu, Chennai, has filed the case in Chennai’s 14th City Civil court and has claimed that the makers have made use of real monitor lizard in the movie.

As per the forestry department, monitor lizards have been declared as an endangered species and having one is an offense. The hearing of this case was attended by Jury Lakshmikantham, who has ordered the makers to come with a justification for this summon.

Udumban, which was scheduled for release on 10th of February, now suffers a delay in the released date due to the hearing on Feb 16th. It is to be noted that Tamil Nadu regional censor board has given a ‘U’ certification for this movie.

On the other hand, producer s.Jeganadhan claims that the crew started the shoot after gaining legal permission from the forestry department and hence the movie will be screened soon.

Udumban is directed by Ramjii S Balan, who has also composed music for it and produced by Jeganadhan under Modern Cinema banner.
