Adhoc assistance of Rs. 500 crore to flood hit Assam

Assam: Heavy rains in the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have resulted in overflow of Brahmaputra River and its tributaries leading to floods in areas astride them. Army is assisting in Flood Relief Operations. Reacting swiftly, Army has deployed 122 Teams in flood affected areas for rescue and relief operations . The Prime Minister has announced adhoc assistance of 500 crore rupees to the flood-hit Assam.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati today after an aerial survey of flood hit areas, the Prime Minister said, a Central team will assist the damage caused by floods to the state. Dr. Singh expressed satisfaction over rescue and relief operations taken by the state government and the defence forces. He also said that 4.84 lakh people have taken shelter in 768 relief camps. All of them are being provided with mobile health centres.
