Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today termed the reduction of petrol prices by Rs. 2 per litre, as an “eyewash” that would not soothe people’s anger and demanded a complete reduction.Reducing Rs. 2 from the earlier hike of Rs. 7.50 will not benefit the poor. This small reduction will not soothe people’s anger. It will continue to be a burden on poor and middle class,” she said in a statement.
She said the decision by the Congress-led UPA to reduce the hike by Rs. two reminded her of the Tamil proverb, “feeding popcorns to the hungry elephant.”
She along with other senior officials will meet Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia on Monday at New Delhi for finalising the plan size for 2012-13.
