Eco clubs in 3200 schools in TN

Chennai: To create environmental awareness among schoolchildren in the state, Tamil Nadu government has announced expansion of the existing ‘Eco Clubs’ to 3,200 more schools and 100 schools in each district, where the clubs would be set up at a total cost of Rs. 80 lakh, it said.

There are presently over 8,000 units of National Green Corps and 1200 units of eco clubs in the state.The government would also distribute laboratory kits with equipment worth Rs. 2000 that would help understand soil, water and bio fuel.

A total of 1000 schools that already have eco clubs would benefit from this at a total cost of Rs. 20 lakh.
