Jeans may cause nerve damage

A number of patients in the US have been found suffering from ‘meralgia paresthetica’, a disorder that causes symptoms of tingling, numbness and pain in the upper legs, as a result of their trendy clothing choices, ABC News reported.

“It’s a disorder that occurs when one of the nerves that runs in the outer part of a thigh gets compressed,” said Dr Karen Boyle from the Greater Baltimore Medical Centre in US.

Wearing high heels with skinny jeans could worsen the problem as tilting the pelvis increases the pressure on nerves, she said.

Dr Boyle warned that any tingling sensation caused by their denims should not be ignored as this could lead to more permanent damage.

As an alternative to the tight fitted denims she suggested wearing jeggings -leggings that look like jeans or denims that have some stretch in them.
