Media Censorship is not an option – PM

Addressing a function to commemorate 130 years of the ‘Tribune’ in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said that the media is an essential pillar of democracy and it has an important role to play in exposing corruption and other ills in the polity and society. Praising the journalists for their balanced and responsible reporting, Dr Singh cautioned them against sensationalisation and trivialisation of issues. He also called upon the media faternity to highlight India’s growth story.

Dr Singh said that media should also advise and reprimand the government when it goes wrong.
