The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has served closure orders on 92 illegal packaged drinking units functioning around the city and communicated to the TNEB to disconnect power supply.

The National Green Tribunal, Southern Bench directed the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) and the Commissionerate of Food Safety and Drug Administration to inspect the 92 water units and to submit a report on May 27 after analysing water samples obtained from these units . Till then, the units should be remain closed.

In the meanwhile the counsel representing the units said the packaged water they had been supplying always met the required quality norms. There was no illegality or violation of any procedure. They are planning for a strike all over the state on 20th May. So there expected a utter water can scarcity in the state…
