Amid speculations over his coronation as the party chief, the Congress celebrated the birthday of its vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who turned 45 on Friday, with much fanfare and enthusiasm.
Instead of flying off secretly to a foreign destination as he had been doing for many years, Rahul mingled with party workers and senior leaders who lined up to wish him.
DMK President M Karunanidhi, DMK treasurer M K Stalin and others today greeted Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on his birthday.
In a message to Rahul, the former Chief Minister said, “I sincerely wish you a very long life dedicated to the cause of our people, especially the down-trodden and poor.”
The DMK president added: “I wish you success in all your endeavours.” Stalin greeted Rahul on Twitter, on his 45th birthday today.
In Chennai, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, led by president EVKS Elangovan, made elaborate arrangements to celebrate Rahul’s birthday.
