Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi today pointed that the ecology and biodiversity should be protected while carrying out development projects.

Mrs Gandhi  was laying the foundation stone of 850-MW Rattle power project in this remote district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mrs Gandhi said projects like Rattle should benefit the local population and hope people whose land has been acquired for the project will get adequate compensation.

She also  condoled the death of eight army soldiers in a militant attack in Srinagar yesterday.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also present on occasion,

I want to pay my tributes to the soldiers who laid down their lives while fighting the terrorists,” Dr Singh said in his speech after inaugurating 850 MW Rattle power project with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The Prime Minister said the entire country is standing united against the terrorists. “The terrorists will not succeed in their designs.”
