Solid waste plant near Sriperumbudur

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation is likely to set up an integrated solid waste management plant in Malaipattu village near Sriperumbudur to reduce the garbage pile-up at the Kodungaiyur and Perungudi dump yards. The civic body is also working on similar projects at Uthukottai and Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district, aiming for a scientific closure of dump yards in the long run.

Sources in the corporation said Wilber Smith consultancy along with the Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Ltd would identify the right technology from among the proposals by 31 multi-national companies, which had expressed interest in providing suitable technology in these plants and scientific closure of thetwo dump yards.
